I attended an event put on by the Michigan Wellness Council (MWC) yesterday morning at Macomb Community College which was hosted by Macomb County and sponsored by HAP. The guest speaker was Dr. Joel Kahn, MD, Medical Director, Wellness and Preventive Cardiology, Detroit Medical Center. His presentation, “Forks, Fingers, Feet: Caring for Your Heart at Work” was outstanding. Dr. Kahn was able to weave valuable nutritional/dietary and exercise information together in an entertaining and understandable way that offered clear, easy-to-apply and preventive suggestions that all can use in an approach to living a healthier, longer life.
While the events are tailored toward fostering workplace wellness, they provide great networking opportunities (I ran into many professionals from the community we know), and this presentation was one from which anyone who wants to embrace wellness would have benefited. Maybe we can get Dr. Kahn to contribute content to the magazine!
The Michigan Wellness Council meets throughout the year. If you’re interested in finding out more, and perhaps attending one of the future sessions, visit MichiganWellnessCouncil.org. I highly recommend it.
