Happy Little 5K Returns
Bob Ross-Inspired Event Returns (Virtually) in 2022

In the third annual Run for the Trees/Happy Little 5K, participants will walk or run anywhere outdoors any time from April 22 through April 29, 2022. This virtual race in support of state parks builds on Bob Ross’s passion for natural landscapes and “happy little trees.” Registration is now open to participants worldwide, but the event is capped at 18,500 participants.
Race proceeds support tree planting and forest protection efforts—such as invasive plant and forest pest management and early detection surveys—in Michigan state parks and recreation areas. Many of these locations have been affected by tree pests and diseases like emerald ash borer and oak wilt. In the past, nearly 40,000 participants have raised awareness and funding for stewardship efforts through this virtual 5K. In the first two years, the event has raised more than $600,000. With support from the Bob Ross partnership, more than 2,100 trees have been planted in 20 state parks across Michigan.
The cost is $34 per person. All participants will receive a commemorative bib number, a keepsake race Happy Little T-shirt and a finisher’s medal.
