Classes to Resume this Fall in Swartz Creek

Natural Awakenings News: Classes to Resume this Fall in Swartz Creek
Linda Purdy

Bread baking classes will resume at Westwind Farm this fall. These classes help beginning bakers feel less intimidated about baking quality bread and more advanced bakers experience another perspective. All the bread is made with Westwind’s flour that is ground in the room beside the kitchen on the farm.

“All the grain that we mill is raised on certified organic Michigan farms, says Westwind Farm co-owner Linda Purdy. "While the bread is rising or baking, we do a mill tour to learn that process, and how different grains produce different products. We mill seven different types of grain, each with a specialty baking product that it's best used for. Everyone learns something, and by the time the class is over, people know each other better and really enjoy their experience together. We hold bread classes to help people reconnect with where their food comes from, discovering skills that bring so much satisfaction, great taste and, of course, superior nutrition into their lives.”

The baking classes have been held for about 10 years. Attendees are welcome to invite a friend. Each class costs $30. Payments are made in advance, and the class limit is 10, due to space limitations.

Westwind Farm is located at 11487 Reid Rd., Swartz Creek. For more information or to register, call Linda Purdy at 810-701-8151, email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or visit WestwindMilling.com.
